Our Award-Winning Products of 2023

The Association for Communication Excellence in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Life and Human Sciences (ACE) recognized several products developed by the Innovative Media Research and Extension department with awards in multiple categories. Our team had the opportunity to showcase their work at the ACE Conference June 11–13, 2023 in Asheville, NC.

The event provides a platform for professionals in the field of communications to come together, learn strategies for optimizing their work, and celebrate outstanding achievements in communications from land-grant universities.

Professional Skill Award in Information Technology Gold Award in Innovative Use of Communication Technology

Our update to this beloved game makes use of today’s technology in HTML5, CSS, and Javascript, as well as refreshing the look of the game and updating accessibility features. Building off of the original game released in 2012, Game Over Gopher combines entertainment and education to help students in learning math concepts using the coordinate grid.


Gold Award in Social Media Campaign

As part of the Partnership for Food Safety Education’s Fight BAC! program, our team, in collaboration with experts from Drexel University, created a compelling social media campaign aimed at debunking common misconceptions about handling raw poultry. With explanatory videos and clear visuals appropriate for social media, the campaign promotes safe practices for handling raw poultry and highlights the importance of preventing cross-contamination. The information is presented in an approachable format for the general public.

Gold Award in Electronic Media and Audio for Diverse Audiences

In partnership with researchers at Drexel University Dornsife School of Public Health, our team created Vietnamese and English outreach materials to help nail salon owners and their employees understand safety risks, rules and regulations, along with state and federal employment guidelines. The resources, animations and posters were designed to be culturally appropriate for Vietnamese nail salon workers.

Gold Award in Graphic Design: Logos

The "Here to Help New Mexico" logo was created as part of the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Stress Assistance Network, a collaboration between the New Mexico Department of Agriculture, New Mexico State University’s Cooperative Extension Service, and the New Mexico Farm and Livestock Bureau. Our team created a visually captivating logo that embodies NMSU’s commitment to assisting rural communities in addressing their mental health.

Silver Award in Interactive Media Program Bronze Award in Electronic Media and Audio for Diverse Audiences

This interactive program was designed to empower learners to make healthier food choices through effective meal planning and the principles of MyPlate. By utilizing engaging visuals and interactive tools with special adaptability for regional foods and local languages, the program encourages individuals to develop a well-balanced and nutritious diet, leading to improved overall health and well-being. It was created in collaboration with New Mexico Ideas for Cooking and Nutrition (ICAN) and Universidad de Puerto Rico.


Silver Award in Information Technology: Website

This interactive website functions as a training tool to guide agricultural producers in maintaining cleaning standards for their equipment and ensuring community health. Through instructive videos and virtual simulations of common sanitizing tasks, the tool equips farmers with the knowledge and resources to maintain cleanliness and prevent the spread of harmful pathogens.
